Description
Great Gobions Farm House is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier and was largely rebuilt around 1800. It features a timber frame wing with a brick main range, which is stuccoed and incised to resemble ashlar. The roof is made of slate and tiles. The building has a three by three bay layout, incorporating an early two bay cross wing to the left, and stands two storeys tall.
The central entrance consists of a six fielded panelled door topped by a traceried rectangular fanlight, with deep reeded reveals and soffit, and a pilaster doorcase with a hood. On the ground floor to the right, there is a small canted bay with a 16 pane sash window. On the first floor, there are 16 pane sashes in deep reveals located in the centre and to the right. The eaves are boxed. The early left bay has a front gable featuring glazing bar sashes in shallower reveals. The left return has two early bays with an 18th-century external stack that has tumbled in offsets and 20th-century casements.
At the rear left, there is an additional bay with a separate lower ridge and a 19th-century external stack with offsets. The right return has a three bay layout under a hipped roof, with a canted bay towards the front on the ground floor, a central small casement, and a 16 pane sash towards the rear. The first floor has 16, 12, and 16 pane sashes, with two stacks located behind the ridge. The rear features three bays made of colourwashed brick, with 16 pane sashes that have cambered heads, a 20th-century door, and a first floor blind opening to the left. The two later bays have dentilled eaves, and the early bay projects slightly with a gable. The interior has not been inspected.
