Description

Heather Hill is a house built around 1830, featuring a 17th-century rear wing that remains from an earlier structure. The main block is constructed of red brick set on a shallow stone plinth, with stone and artificial stone details, while the rear wing is timber-framed on brick. The building has hipped slate roofs with boxed eaves and two brick chimney stacks. There is a brick vaulted cellar beneath the main block.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range with 6/6 sash windows beneath moulded stone hoods supported by enriched consoles. A central early 20th-century porch features a margin-glazed door and lights, housing the original margin-glazed door in a reeded case with corner stop paterae, flanked by 6/6 sash windows under similar hoods.

On the left side, there are French windows to the right and two 6/6 sashes under similar hoods on the first floor. A later 19th-century two-tier canted bay window with plain sashes and French windows is located to the left. The left return side is roughcast, featuring a 6/6 sash and a narrow 10/8 sash for the stairwell.

A projecting gable wing includes a part-glazed 6-panel door in an early 19th-century doorcase with a hood supported by colonnettes, and two tiers of 6/6 sashes with segmental arches. The upper level of the side wall of the rear wing exposes timber-framing above the brick projection that houses the kitchen range. The rear wall is rendered over timber-frame with brick infill, displaying scattered fenestration including an 8/8 sash.

Inside the rear wing, exposed posts and ceiling beams are noted. The main house features a staircase from around 1830 with stick balusters and turned newels, square shutters, and panelled doors on both floors. The main bedroom includes a chimney piece with fluted architraves and corner stops with paterae.
