Description

The Black Horse Inn, previously known as the Bowling Green Inn, is a late 18th or early 19th century building of painted brick construction with a Welsh slate roof. It has brick end and rear stacks. The building is two storeys high and features a three-window front. The windows are 8/8 sashes, each with a rusticated stucco lintel. There are brick modillion eaves. A 20th-century casement window is located centrally, also under a rusticated stucco lintel, flanked by pairs of six-fielded-panel doors set within panelled reveals. These doors are protected by moulded wood open-pediment hoods supported on consoles and panelled pilasters. To the left, a carriageway leads to the rear, accessed by plank double doors under a shallow segmental arch. To the right is another 20th-century casement window with a rusticated stucco lintel. The interior of the building has not been inspected. The Black Horse Inn was originally built as a single structure with number 72 South Street.
