Description
72 South Street is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of brick with a Welsh slate roof and features brick stacks at the front right and rear. The building has two storeys and a cellar, with a single-window range that includes an 8/8 sash window beneath a rusticated stucco lintel. The eaves are adorned with brick modillions.
The entrance is located on the left side and consists of a six-panel door set in panelled reveals, topped with a moulded wood open-pediment hood supported by panelled pilasters. There is also a 28-pane shop window with a panelled stall-riser, which is situated beneath a moulded fascia-board and hood, resting on grooved pilasters. The rear of the building is finished in stucco and features late 19th-century two-over-two sash windows in moulded cases, along with brick modillion eaves.
The interior has not been inspected. This house is part of a single build with the Black Horse Inn located to the south.
