Description
23 Duke Street is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed of stucco with a Welsh slate roof and features a brick end stack. The building has two storeys and a two-window range, with late 19th-century two- and three-light casements. The entrance has a late 19th-century six-fielded-panel door beneath a flat hood supported by metal brackets. On the right side, there is a 19th-century casement window at the gable. The rear of the house is roughcast and includes a 20th-century cross-window above a mullion and transom window.
Inside, the house has boxed-in chamfered ceiling beams and a stone fireplace with an oak lintel. There are also sections of wattle and daub, exposed 17th-century chamfered ceiling beams in the cellar, and a 19th-century staircase featuring stick balusters and turned newels.
