Description

These cottages at 17, 18, and 19 Duke Street date from the 17th century. They are built with roughcast and timber-frame and plaster construction, featuring a graduated stone tile roof and a Welsh slate rear pitch. A substantial rubble axial stack is located at the rear. The cottages are single-storey with an attic.

No. 17 has a shopfront from the late 19th century, with a half-glazed panelled door and, to the left, a bay window with clerestory lights, a panelled stall-riser with pilasters, and a hood supported by brackets. No. 18 features a 19th-century six-moulded-panel door within a moulded case, topped by a simple hood; a canted bay window with glazing bars and a central 4/4 sash is to the left. Three dormers from the 17th century are present, each with 2/2 casement windows and oak framing. A leaded light containing old glass is also visible. The returned sides of the cottages showcase 17th-century box framing with plaster infill.
