Description
The Dovecote, Barn, and Cowsheds located immediately northwest of Perrywood Farmhouse form a planned group of linked farm buildings, dating from 1837. The entrance to the dovecote is made of yellow stock brick, while the barn and sheds are timber framed on brick bases and covered with weatherboarding. The roofs are mostly slate, except for the barn, which has corrugated sheeting.
The dovecote is octagonal in shape, with its entrance facing the farmhouse. It features a traceried semi-circular fanlight above the entrance, which has a gauged brick head. Each face of the dovecote has recessed panels and a continuous band at the impost level of the entrance arch. To the right of the entrance is a boarded opening, with a double door further to the right. The eaves courses project with a diagonally set brick course. The roof is finished with lead flashings and has a louvred cupola topped with a leaded ogee head and a ball finialed weathervane. Inside, the dovecote retains its original brick cots and ledges.
At the rear of the dovecote, there is a low range of open cart sheds that connects to a large eight-bay barn. The barn features double doors in bays two and seven, with short lean-to outshuts at the rear. There is a gabled outshut at the rear center and a lean-to outshut on the right end. Inside the barn, there are curved braces extending from straight posts to straight tie beams, and it has a king post roof with trenched purlins.
Attached to the right end of the barn, cow-sheds sweep around in a quadrant arc to enclose a yard. The three bays nearest the barn are open fronted with curved braces, while further to the right, there are double doors and fixed windows. The roof has a hip at the right end, where a short range returns towards the farmhouse.
