Description

Beechmount House is a house that dates back to the 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with rendered wattle-and-daub infill and a tiled roof. The building has been modified with a rebuilt brick ridge stack and the north side of the roof at the west end.

The house consists of three framed bays and is a single storey with an attic that includes dormers. The square framing has three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, and there is a long diagonal brace in the south elevation. The east gable end displays short straight braces in the upper corners and an exposed queen strut truss.

On the front elevation of the older part, there are two 20th-century ground floor casements, a first floor casement, and a gabled dormer with a casement. The rear elevation of the 17th-century section features three ground floor casements, two gabled dormers with casements, a planked door to the west bay, and another planked door to the right of the central bay, which is accompanied by a timber-framed porch and a lean-to tiled roof. Additionally, there is a bay window and an attic light in the east gable end.

Inside, the house has single, trenched purlins, intermediate collar trusses, and stop-chamfered main beams. There are back-to-back fireplaces at the east end of the central bay, along with an original winder staircase located on the north side of the chimney. A two-storey 20th-century extension is attached to the north elevation of the west bay and includes the current main entrance on the east elevation.
