Description

Peachley House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 16th century, with alterations from the 19th century and remodelling in the late 20th century. It features part timber framing with brick infill, as well as brick refacing and replacement walling, all topped with tiled roofs. The building has large external brick stacks on the rear elevations and a small external brick stack at the front. It consists of four framed bays, with the west end bay rebuilt in brick during the 19th century. A through-passage is located between the east end and the adjoining bay. The house is two storeys tall, and the wall-frame construction in the east bay suggests that the gable end was once jettied. The first floor displays square, small panelled framing, and the rear north elevation includes a large swept brace in the wall-frame. There is also an original wood mullioned window on the rear elevation. The fenestration is irregular, with the front elevation featuring three ground floor casements, two first floor casements, and a doorway in the bay next to the rebuilt bay, which has a planked door and a lean-to porch supported by timber uprights. Inside, the central bays show signs of an inserted floor, as the roof timbers are blackened. There is a 19th-century outshut on the rear left of the two bays. The structure was undergoing reconstruction at the time of the survey in June 1984.
