Description
Worsley House is a farmhouse dating from the late 15th century, with 16th and late 17th century extensions, and mid-19th century and some late 20th century alterations. It features a timber frame with rendered infill, underbuilt in painted brick, and has a tile roof. The building consists of four framed bays aligned north to south, with a 17th century framed bay to the north, a brick addition to the south, and a 16th century extension of one framed bay to the west. The main stack is located in a short bay at the south end of the original house.
The house has two storeys and four windows on the upper floor: three single-light casements and a 5-light casement to the left of centre. The ground floor has four 3-light casements. The entrance, located to the left of centre, features a 19th century gabled brick porch, with a door that has a wooden architrave and a 17th century boarded door with strap hinges. The framing of the original house is close-studded, with curved tension braces. The 16th century portion has four square panels high, while the 17th century part has three square panels high to the first floor. The roof of the 15th century section has collar and tie-beam trusses with trenched purlins and curved wind-braces. Inside, the main fireplace has moulded stone jambs that continue around a 4-centred arch in a restored timber lintel.
