Description

Forge Cottage is a 17th-century cottage located on Bell Lane in Broadheath. It is a timber-framed building with rendered infill panels set on a brick plinth. The gables are partly weatherboarded and the roof is thatched. A large brick external stack and a circular bread oven are located at the south-west gable end. The cottage originally comprised two framed bays, with the entrance situated in the north-east gable. It is a single-storey building with an attic. The upper corner panels of the large, square timber frame feature straight braces. Queen strut trusses are visible in the gable ends. All windows are casement windows with diamond-leaded lights. There are two casement windows on the side elevations, and attic lights are set into the gable ends. A planked door is positioned in the north-east gable. A 20th-century lean-to extension with a flat roof was added to the south-west gable end. The cottage was undergoing restoration at the time of a survey in May 1984.
