4/33 Upper Lightwood Farmhouse

Farmhouse. C17 or earlier, altered in C19 and mid C20. Timber-framed, brick refacing and replacement walling, tiled roofs, large brick external stack with tiled offsets to rear and 2 external brick stacks to left side elevation and one to right side elevation. Hall and cross-wing type plan. Main range of 2 framed bays; 2 bay cross-wing. Two storeys, attic and cellar; there is a dentilled eaves cornice to the side elevation of the cross-wing. Front elevation has C20 casements, 3 on ground floor of main range, one in position of blocked doorway and 2 on the first floor. The cross-wing gable end has a parapet and a ground and first floor window and an attic light. Interior Roof has queen strut trusses and single trenched purlins. Main beams are stop chamfered. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site that had recently been filled in when the survey was carried out (June 1984).
