Description
1 and 2 College Precincts are a pair of houses, now used as offices (on the left) and a house, built around 1820 with later alterations. They are constructed from pinkish-red brick in Flemish bond, featuring flat arches made of gauged red brick, stone sills, and a slate roof. The buildings have end brick stacks with oversailing courses and pots, which have been renewed on the left side.
The structures rise to three storeys and have a total of five first-floor windows arranged in a 2:3 pattern. The first floor includes eight 8/8 sash windows, two 6/6 sash windows, another 8/8 sash, and a 6/6 sash. The second floor features four 4/4 sash windows, two 3/3 sash windows, another 4/4 sash, and a 3/3 sash. The ground floor has two 8/8 sash windows. All windows are set in plain reveals with flat arches of gauged brick, although the windows on the right have been painted. The sills are also present.
There are two off-centre entrances on the left: each has a five-panel door with overlights, and the door to the right includes glazing bars, framed by a timber doorcase with a cornice. Additionally, there is another entrance to a passageway on the right, featuring a plank door in a round-arched opening with a brick surround. A modillion eaves band runs along the top.
Inside, the house on the left (No. 1) has moulded cornices and a dogleg staircase with stick balusters, although it has not been fully inspected. Historically, these buildings were not shown on Young's map of 1779 and occupy an important site that contributes to the setting of Worcester Cathedral. All the listed buildings in College Precincts form a cohesive group with the Cathedral.
