8, College Precincts

No. 8 College Precincts is a house built around the 1740s, featuring later additions and alterations, including a 19th-century bow window and 20th-century dormers. The building is constructed of pinkish-red brick in Flemish bond with a concealed roof. It has two storeys plus an attic and a half-basement, with four first-floor windows. A three-course band runs along the first floor, which has 6/6 sash windows in decorative frames, topped with flat arches made of gauged brick. The eaves are adorned with modillion detailing, and there are two roof dormers with casement windows.

On the ground floor, there is a chamfered plinth with a grille on the right side. The bow window on the left features three 12-pane lights and fluted pilasters between them. To the right, there is another 6/6 sash window in a flush frame, also with a flat arch of gauged brick and external shutters. The entrance, located off-centre to the right, consists of a three-raised-and-fielded panel door with a fluted surround and a hood supported by corbels, along with a divided overlight above.

Inside, the house retains original plasterwork and joinery, including a dentil cornice in the first-floor room. The listed buildings in College Precincts collectively create a significant group and contribute to the setting of Worcester Cathedral.
