Description
No. 13 Edgar Street is a house dating from around 1760, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring ashlar sills, keystones, a cornice, and copings, along with a timber doorcase. The roof is concealed. The building stands three storeys high and has three first-floor windows. The ground and first floors have 6/6 sash windows, while the second floor features a Venetian window with a 9/6 round-arched sash flanked by two 2/4 sashes, all with shaped sills. The ground and first floors display flat arches made of gauged brick, with keystones that have incised designs; the centre of the first-floor arch has a foliate design, all topped with cornices. The second-floor window has a round arch at the centre, with a keystone that features a foliate motif, surmounted by a continuous shaped cornice. The building has a parapet with shaped copings. The entrance, located on the left, consists of a six-raised-and-fielded-panel door with a three-pane overlight, set within a fluted surround that includes a cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
Nos 2-16 Edgar Street form a significant group, along with Nos 28-34 Sidbury, No. 12 College Precincts, Tower House at No. 1 Severn Street, and Edgar Tower on College Green. Edgar Street, where all the buildings are listed, is a fine example of a Georgian street and contributes to the setting of the Cathedral.
