Description

No. 9 Edgar Street is a house that has been converted into an office. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some later alterations and restorations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring red brick arches and stone sills, along with a stone eaves band. It has a plain tile roof and stands three storeys high, with two first-floor windows. The windows are 6/6 sashes throughout, set in plain reveals, with flat arches made of gauged brick and stone sills. The entrance, located to the left, consists of a four-raised-and-fielded-panel door topped with a fanlight and a gauged brick arch above. The building is capped with a low coped parapet.

Inside, the property retains original joinery, including four-panel doors.

No. 9 is part of a significant group of buildings that includes Nos. 2-16 Edgar Street, Nos. 28-34 Sidbury, No. 12 College Precincts, Tower House at No. 1 Severn Street, and Edgar Tower on College Green. Edgar Street is noted for its fine Georgian architecture and contributes to the setting of the Cathedral.
