Description

This is a house dating to the 1730s, with later additions and alterations including a refacing around 1800-1820. It is constructed of stucco over brick, with a plain tile roof and a brick stack at the right end, featuring an oversailing course and decorative pots. The house is three storeys high plus an attic, with a single window on the first floor. It has a chamfered plinth and quoins running the full height. A moulded cornice runs along the top. The ground and first floors feature 8/8 sash windows; the second floor has a 4/8 sash window, all set in plain reveals with tooled architraves and sills. The entrance, on the left side, has a six-panel door with a fanlight of radial glazing bars, within a doorcase featuring pilasters and an open dentil pediment. A gable-ended roof dormer has casement windows. The interior has not been inspected.

The house is part of a significant group which includes numbers 2-16 (consecutive) Edgar Street, numbers 28-34 (even) Sidbury, number 12 College Precincts, Tower House, number 1 Severn Street, and Edgar Tower, College Green. Edgar Street, in which the house is situated, is a fine example of a Georgian street and forms part of the setting for the Cathedral.
