Description
No. 8 Edgar Street is a house that has been converted into an office. It was built around 1780 and has undergone some alterations and restorations in the 20th century. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring red brick arches and stone sills, along with a stone eaves band. It has a plain tile roof and stands three storeys tall, with two first-floor windows. The windows are 6/6 sashes with plain reveals, flat arches made of gauged brick, and sills. The entrance is located to the left and consists of a four-raised-and-fielded-panel door with a fanlight above, also featuring a gauged brick arch. The building has a low coped parapet.
Inside, the property retains original joinery, including four-panel doors. No. 8 is part of a significant group of buildings that includes Nos. 2-16 Edgar Street, Nos. 28-34 Sidbury, No. 12 College Green, Tower House at No. 1 Severn Street, and Edgar Tower on College Green. Edgar Street is a notable example of a Georgian street and contributes to the setting of the Cathedral.
