Description
The building at 9 College Precincts is a house dating from approximately 1700 to 1720, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of pinkish-red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with ashlar copings and a renewed plain tile roof. The house features cast-iron grillework and brackets. The windows are largely typical of the early 18th century, with the exception of those on the upper floor. The building is three storeys high and has three windows on the first floor. It has a chamfered plinth with a grille to the left. The ground floor includes a twelve-pane fixed window in a flush frame, followed by two six/six pane sash windows in flush frames, each with a flat header arch and sill. The window on the right shows signs of having originally been a taller opening. An off-centre left entrance has a roll-edged step leading to a two-panel door with a brass lion-head knocker and bell pull, set within a fluted surround with a hood supported by shaped brackets. The first floor features six/six pane sash windows in flush frames. A three-course band marks the second floor. The second floor has two three/six pane sash windows with cambered arches. The gable ends are coped. The interior retains original joinery, including panelled shutters. The listed buildings within College Precincts form a notable group and contribute to the setting for Worcester Cathedral.
