Description
Columbus House is a house that has been converted into offices, built between 1808 and 1832, with later additions and alterations, including a shop front added in the 1980s. The building features pinkish-red brick in Flemish bond on the ground and first floors, and red brick in Flemish bond on the second floor. It has stone sills and red gauged brick arches, topped with a slate roof. The structure is three storeys high and has three first-floor windows. The first-floor windows are 6/6 sashes, while the second-floor windows are 8/8 horned sashes, all set in shallow reveals with flat arches and sills. The ground floor has an entrance on the right with a six-panel door, where the upper four panels are raised and fielded, and the lower panels are flush beaded, all within flush beaded reveals and a pilastered doorcase with an open pediment. The shop front has been renewed in a Victorian style, and there is a modillion eaves band. The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the building does not appear on Young's Map from around 1808 but is shown on Clements's Map from 1832.
