Description

Malvern House (No. 5) and Lynton House (No. 7) are two houses that have been converted into offices. They were likely built in the late 18th century, with some later additions and alterations, particularly from the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed from reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond and feature a hipped slate roof. There are brick stacks, including a party-wall stack at the ridge and another stack at the rear on the left, both topped with oversailing courses and pots. The sills are stuccoed.

The houses are arranged in a T-plan with an infill section at the rear on the right. The left house has a hallway on the right side, while the right house has a central hallway. They are two storeys tall and have five first-floor windows. The windows are 6/6 flush-frame, cambered-arched sashes, all under cambered arches and with sills. The fourth window from the left is now blocked. There is a continuous dentil cornice above the first floor that returns to the left.

The entrances feature six raised-and-fielded-panel doors with fanlights, although the fanlight on the right is blind. The timber doorcases have round-arched openings and open pediments supported by console brackets. At the rear, the houses retain some original features, including 8/8 and 6/6 sashes, a tripartite window with a 6/6 sash between two 2/2 sashes, and four blocked elliptically-arched openings.

Inside, the houses retain original joinery, including four-panel doors and a chamfered spine beam. They occupy an important site at the junction of Malvern Road and Bransford Road and form a group with No. 1 Malvern Road.
