Description

This is an end-of-terrace house, dating to the late 18th century, and now used as a shop on the ground floor with a flat above. It is located on the north-west side of St Johns in Worcester. The building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, and has a plain clay tile roof with dentilled eaves. There are two brick ridge stacks to the right-hand end, each with oversailing details and pots. The original layout included a single-depth plan with a central hall and staircase serving the upper floors. The right return is curved, and a parallel range extends to the rear, with an outshot section. A further service range to the rear right is angled to fit within the plot boundary.

The house has two storeys and an attic. The first floor has four windows (three windows, then one), with a slight projection of the right-hand end bay creating a corresponding step in the ridge line. The first-floor windows are alternately 8/8 and 6/6 sashes, set within ear-flush frames, with sills and arched heads. The shopfront is a late 20th-century replica, featuring pilasters and console brackets. A replacement vertically-boarded door to the left, accessed under a semi-circular arch, provides access to the upper floors, alongside a 6/6 sash window. There are three gabled dormers with paired 3-pane, side-hung casement windows.

The interior was not inspected during listing.

The building was subject to a comprehensive scheme of repair and reinstatement around 1989, which included renewing the ground-floor brickwork.
