Description
This barn, located about 150 yards south-west of The Farm, dates from the 17th century and has undergone some alterations in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from timber framing and weatherboarding, with some brick infill and replacement walling, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The barn features four framed bays that are aligned roughly north to south, with a wagon bay positioned second from the north end, which has opposed cart entries. The west elevation includes two pairs of open panels, one of which is glazed, along with a single open panel that has a shutter. The wagon bay has a slightly raised roof and a blocked entrance with inserted double doors.
Inside, there are three square panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The structure includes collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts to the collar and a V-strut at the apex at both ends. The intermediate trusses feature raking-struts, and there are two tiers of trenched purlins. The barn is positioned at right angles to the adjacent granary.
