Description
No 2 Clow's Top Road is a house dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. It features a timber-framed structure with painted brick infill, a rubble plinth, and a machine-tiled roof. The house has two plus one framed bays oriented east to west, and a large external rubble chimney at the east gable end with a detached brick stack. It is a single storey with an attic that includes rear dormers.
The framing consists mainly of three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with long straight braces in the lower corners. The west gable end has long swept braces in the lower corners, and collar and tie-beam trusses with three struts to the collar and a V-strut in the apex at both gable ends.
On the north front elevation, the ground floor has two three-light casements and a rectangular light, all featuring plank weatherings. There is a brick ridge stack at the west gable end. The main entrance, located at the rear of the large external chimney, includes a mid-20th century lean-to glazed porch and a half-glazed door. Inside, there is a large fireplace that has been blocked, but the large timber bressummer remains.
