Description
No 9 Pepper Street is a house that likely dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the early 18th and early 19th centuries. It features a timber frame with wattle-and-daub infill, which is fronted in brick and sits on a sandstone plinth, topped with a tile roof. The building consists of two framed bays oriented east to west, with an additional lower bay to the west and gable-end stacks on the two main bays.
The south front has two storeys and two windows, which are 2-light casements from the 20th century with stone sills. The ground floor has similar windows that feature plastered wedge lintels with keystones and stone sills. The entrance is slightly left of centre and is approached by a flight of five stone steps, leading to a wooden doorcase with a shallow flat canopy. To the left, the lower bay displays exposed framing and has a 2-light casement on the upper floor. The framing is also visible on the east elevation, showcasing two large square panels at a height with long curved angle braces. The roof truss includes two struts to the collar.
