Description

Audoll Cottage is a house dating back to the 17th century, with later alterations and additions from the late 19th century and mid-20th century. It is constructed with a timber frame, painted brick and rendered infill, and has plain tiled roofs. Originally composed of two timber-framed bays aligned north/south, a further framed bay was added at the south gable end in the 20th century. A large external chimney is located at the north gable end and features a detached brick stack and a lean-to bread oven. The cottage is two storeys high. The timber frame shows four panels from the sill to the wall plate, with some short straight braces across the upper corners. The north gable end reveals a collar and tie-beam truss. The west front has a 2-light casement window on the ground floor to the left, and a lean-to addition to the right, which has a dentilled eaves cornice and a 3-light casement window. The first floor has two 2-light casement windows and a single-light casement window, all from the 20th century. A 20th-century gabled brick porch sits on the left bay, with a door and a sidelight set within the gable end, and a 2-light window in the side elevation. A 20th-century external brick chimney is situated where the original part of the cottage joins the additional bay. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage is part of a group of buildings surrounding The Square.
