Description

No 36 is a house dating from around the mid 17th century, which has been partly rebuilt and extended in the 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with front and back walls made of painted Flemish bond brick. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with slate, having gabled ends. There are brick stacks at the axial and gable ends.

The layout consists of a three-room plan with an additional one-room plan extension on the eastern end, likely constructed in the 19th century when the front and back walls were rebuilt. The left room of the original house is heated by a gable end stack, the central room has an inserted axial stack, and the smaller right-hand room is unheated.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a somewhat asymmetrical three-window front facing north. It features 19th-century three-light casements, with a two-light casement on the ground floor to the right, and a 20th-century porch on the left with a plank door to the right. The one-bay extension on the left has 19th-century two and three-light casements with glazing bars. The rear elevation has a three-to-one bay configuration with similar windows and a 20th-century conservatory on the left, along with a shed on the west end and a garage on the east end.

Inside, the centre and left rooms have chamfered axial beams with run-out stops. The left room has exposed unchamfered joists, while the centre room features a brick fireplace with a cambered chamfered lintel. The interior also includes exposed timber frame partition walls, closed trusses with tie-beams, collar and clasped purlins, and a ceiling above the collars.
