Description
Herbert's Farmhouse is a house that likely dates from the late 16th century, with possible earlier elements. It features a combination of timber-framing and brick, topped with a tile roof, and is designed in an H-plan. The building has two storeys, with the east wall presenting a recessed center of three bays that is cased in brick. The windows are casements with segmental heads, and the door located in the middle bay has a wooden frame inscribed with the date "1748," which may refer to the brick casing. The cross-wings are framed in square panels and feature V-struts above the collars. The left-hand cross-wing consists of one bay and includes a gabled stair turret on its right-hand return wall. The lower part of the right-hand wing has later brick additions. The chimneys are located on the side walls of the cross-wings and to the right of the left-hand cross-wing, featuring diagonal shafts. The west wall mirrors the east, with a two-bay center and exposed framing in the wings. The interior has not been inspected.
