Description
Queenhill Manor is a house dating from the late 16th century and 17th century, constructed of timber-frame and painted brick with plain tile roofs. It is two storeys high and has an H-plan layout, featuring a large north wing from the 16th century and a smaller south crosswing from the 17th century. The north wing includes a prominent external stack on the north side with two diagonal shafts, and it has a small timber-framed gabled turret attached. The front of the north wing is close studded and jettied, with a modern mullion and transom oriel window on the ground floor and a three-light window above. The gable displays ornamental framing and has 19th-century bargeboards.
The central section has been altered and features one gabled half-dormer, with a brick ground floor that includes a central door flanked by windows. The south wing is square framed at the front, with long tension braces, a mullion and transom window on the ground floor, and a two-light window above. The south wall is mostly brick, with a dormer, gable, and brick stack, while the east rear gable is square framed and shows signs of heightening. There are 19th-century and modern additions at the rear. The north wing is believed to contain a former open hall with two bays, featuring an arched braced collar truss and windbracing. The ground floor room has an impressive sixteen-panel ceiling with deep chamfered beams, and a third bay at the rear has a three-arch screen leading from the ground floor room to the hall, along with moulded beams in the upper room.
