Description

Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1600, with further development in the 17th century and alterations in the 19th century. It is constructed of timber framing and brick, with a tile roof, and follows an H-plan. The house is two storeys high. The left-hand service wing is faced with brick and has two storeys, featuring sash windows with glazing bars, with the ground floor window being tripartite. The recessed central section has two casement windows on each floor, and a door beneath an open timber porch. The right-hand cross wing has exposed irregular timber framing. A square bay window is on the ground floor of this wing, and above it is a six-pane sash window. The roof trusses have struts between the tie-beam and collar, with V-struts above. Chimneys are located to the left and right, and at the rear of the central section. Inside the right-hand cross wing, an internal wall showcases exposed timber framing with curved braces to a principal post. A clamp pegged to this wall supports ceiling joists in the recessed centre, which has exposed stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
