Description
The Bateman memorial is an early 19th-century pedestal tomb located approximately 20 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Shrawley. It is made of sandstone ashlar and features a square shape with rebated corners. The tomb has a stepped, moulded plinth and a moulded capping that supports a squat urn finial. A band of fluting with paterae at the edges runs along the top of each inscription panel. The inscriptions are largely illegible, but one on the south face commemorates John Bateman, who died in 1828.
