Description

The chest tomb to the Bateman family is located in the churchyard of St. Mary's, approximately 35 metres west of the nave. It dates from the 19th century and is constructed of limestone ashlar. The tomb features a moulded base and a cornice lid, with a stepped sarcophagus top and recessed corners that have shaped square balusters. There are moulded inscription panels dedicated to Edward Bateman from 1827, along with later inscriptions for John Bateman and his wife Mary from 1861.
