Description
Old Crown Cottages consists of three adjoining cottages that may have originally been a hall and cross-wing, with a later addition. The central cross-wing dates from the 17th century, while the flanking ranges were added in the late 18th century. The cottages are timber-framed with brick infill and brick flanking ranges, topped with tiled roofs. They are aligned roughly from north-east to south-west, with the former hall and cross-wing (numbers 2 and 3) located to the north-east and the later range (number 1) to the south-west.
Number 1 is two storeys high with two windows featuring 2-light wooden casements and a ledged door to the left. Number 2 is a single storey with a gable-lit attic, displaying a 2-light casement and another 2-light casement with a gabled porch to the right, along with a ledged door. Number 3 is also a single storey with an attic, featuring irregular fenestration, one 20th-century dormer, and three windows to the right of an open porch, along with a ledged door. The central cross-wing retains much of its framing, which originally had three panels from the sill to the wall-plate, although it has been partly refaced on the entrance elevation, with V-struts visible in the gable at the rear.
