Description

Bateman's Tomb, located in the grounds of Chapel House, is a Grade II listed tomb built in 1861. It serves as the burial place of Thomas Bateman, a notable Derbyshire archaeologist. The tomb is rectangular and features a stone model of a Bronze Age cinerary urn at its west end. An inscription reads, "Thos Batemanes D. Aug 28th 1861 aged 39 years." The tomb is surrounded by contemporary spear-headed cast iron railings set on a low stone plinth. The Bateman collection is housed in the Sheffield City Museum.
