Description

The Square House is a house, formerly the Bateman Arms public house, dating from the 19th century. It is built of regularly coursed gritstone with a stone slate roof, and has coped gables and ridge stacks with moulded drips. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, with gabled ends. The end gables feature 2-light chamfer mullioned windows with hood-moulds and stops, set within cast iron casement frames with glazing bars. The central doorway has been refashioned and is recessed within a segmental stone arch, set within a square frame. A small 2-light window is located to the north of the doorway.
