Description

Weatheroak Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century to the late 17th century, incorporating a fragment of an open hall house. It features a timber-frame structure with rendered infill and possibly rendered sandstone. The layout is complex, with a single bay at the north end from the late 16th century, followed by an early 17th-century bay, and a south cross-wing and bay from the late 17th century. The stack in the latter bay has three diamond shafts.

The east front of the farmhouse has two storeys and a gabled cross-wing to the left, which is likely made of rendered sandstone. There are four windows on this side, mostly 3-light 20th-century casements. On the ground floor, there is a canted bay window with a lean-to roof, followed by three windows with two, five, and three lights. Roughly central is a 20th-century gabled porch with a 3-light casement at the front, which replaced a two-storey timber-framed porch.

The framing includes herringbone patterns on the first floor, with a slight jetty over the close-studded ground floor. The gable of the cross-wing features two collars and ornamental bracing. Inside, against the north face of the main stack, there are remnants of a truss with two struts and a collar, showing extensive smoke-blackening.
