Description

Dean's Place is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with alterations made in the early 20th century. It features timber-framing with brick infill set on a sandstone plinth and has a tiled roof. The building consists of a central hall range with a through-passage, flanked by cross-wings, and includes a main axial stack as well as lateral stacks in the cross-wings. There are later additions at the rear.

The farmhouse has two storeys, attics, and cellars. On the south front, there is a 2-light glazing bar casement window on the first floor of the left cross-wing gable end, and two windows flank a gabled porch on the ground floor. The central hall range has two 3-light casement windows and one 4-light window. The central entrance features a gabled porch and a ledged door, with a 3-light glazing bar casement on the gable end of the right cross-wing and French casements on the ground floor.

The timber framing is largely intact, although the centre of the south front has been refaced, displaying four square panels from the sill to the wall-plate. The interior has been altered but retains chamfered ceiling beams and 15th-century tiles that are now covered over. The staircase noted by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England has been removed.
