Description

Elderden Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 16th or early 17th century. It features a timber frame, with the ground floor constructed of red and grey brick and the first floor close-studded with rendered infilling. The gable end of the wing is made of red brick in English bond, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. The building consists of about three timber-framed bays of an open hall range, with a long wing added, likely in the late 16th or early 17th century, which forms the present front at the right end. It is two storeys high, with a rear stack towards the left end of the main range and a multiple brick gable end stack to the wing that has a worn stone plaque. The fenestration is irregular, featuring two 20th-century casements on the main range and a central three-light 20th-century casement on the wing, flanked by two-light ovolo-moulded mullion frieze windows. There is a 20th-century ribbed door on the main range at the junction with the wing, aligned with a four-centred arched hollow-chamfered doorway with solid spandrels at the rear. The interior has not been inspected, but it includes a moulded end-of-hall beam in the main range.
