Description

White House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century or earlier, with alterations from the 17th century. It is timber framed, featuring a ground floor with chequered red and buff brick on the left side, while the right side has exposed framing with brick nogging. The first floor displays exposed studding with plaster infilling. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The right section may be a cross-wing from the 16th century or earlier, while the left section appears to have been adapted or rebuilt in the 17th century, featuring a broad bay and a narrow stack bay. The building has two storeys and attics, with the right section standing on a rendered plinth. There is a continuous jetty that returns to the right on a moulded dragon post. The studding is broadly spaced and includes tension braces. The roof is hipped, with a gablet on the left side, and there is a multiple brick stack on the front slope of the roof in the narrow right bay of the left section. Hipped dormers are present on the hips, and the fenestration is irregular, consisting of two 3-light casements. A ribbed door is located beneath the stack. The interior has not been inspected. The building is marked on the Ordnance Survey map as Brick Kiln Cottages.
