Description
Herstfield Bridges is a bridge located over several streams of the River Beult, partly in the Staplehurst civil parish. It is likely from the 14th or 15th century, with later alterations. The bridge is constructed of ragstone, featuring a low parapet that has been rebuilt in buff brick with engineering brick coping. It has six low arches, with two pairs towards the center and a single arch at each end. The arches have triangular heads, with chamfered jambs and heads on the east side and chamfered heads on the west side. The soffits are ashlar, and there are no cutwaters. The road is about 10 feet wide, and the bridge is approximately 300 feet long. The coping is topped with wooden posts and iron rails, and there is a broad refuge between the two central pairs of arches.
