Description
Homme House is a house dating from the 16th century, which was significantly rebuilt and enlarged in the late 18th century and early 19th century. The earlier part of the house is constructed from sandstone with sandstone dressings, while the later section is made of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. The smaller 16th-century section is attached to the north-east corner of the main 18th-century block, which has a rectangular plan and is aligned north-west to south-east.
The north-east elevation of the main block features three storeys above cellars and measures six by three bays, with the second left bays being more widely spaced than the others. It has glazing bar sash windows and a porch supported by two pairs of Tuscan columns beneath a pediment, which is set in a continuous balustraded parapet with corner finials. To the right, there are two subsidiary bays that are two storeys high, and attached at right angles is the early 16th-century part, which includes a canted oriel window and battlements. The return three-bay south end of the main block has a three-storey canted bay window.
The interior is reported to have a flying staircase and a 17th-century wooden chimney-piece and panelling.
