Description
STAUNTON-ON-WYE CP - SO 34 NE 4/110 Kilkington Farmhouse 20.2.53 GY II Farmhouse. Probably late C16 or early C17 with earlier origins. C18 and later alterations. Timber-frame, sandstone rubble and brick, part of which is rendered. Hipped tiled roof with brick and sandstone stacks. T-plan with cross-wing at south-west end. Cellar and two storeys to cross-wing; one storey and attic to main range. South-east elevation has rendered gable top to left with a 2-light mid-C20 casement to first floor and a 3-light casement to ground floor. Brick main range has a 4-light early C20 case- ment in a gabled dormer. Ground floor has two windows with 3-light case- ments, the right probably early C19, in cambered heads. Entry immediately to right of gable front. Mid-C19 brick gabled porch with two-centred head, fanlight and 8-panelled contemporary door. North-east gable is brick with central stable door and loft door above. Interior has ground floor room with V-section heavy oak ceiling beams. Newel staircase, possibly C17 or C18, with oak treads winding around massive oak post about one foot square. Extensive oak floor boards. (RCHM, Vol III, p 186).
