Description
The Beeches is a house built between 1859 and 1860 by Fulljames and Waller for the Jarvis Educational Foundation. It is constructed of red brick in English bond with stone dressings and features a clay plain tile roof with stone-coped gables. The building showcases a Tudor Gothic style, with large brick gable end and lateral stacks that have clustered shafts.
The house has a large plan, with a front range that includes rooms on either side of a central entrance and an extensive service range behind. It is two storeys high with an attic and has an asymmetrical south front with thirteen windows. The windows are a mix of two and three-light stone mullion-transom designs. On the right side, there is a stone canted bay window topped with a tiled hipped roof and a small gable above. To the left, a wooden gabled dormer features deep eaves and verges. The central doorway has a pointed arch, an integral overlight, and a plank door. A string course runs at first floor level, and there is a plinth with chamfered stone weathering. The east elevation includes a gabled rear wing that projects on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
