Description

The Green is a house located in Staunton-on-Wye, likely built in the late 17th century or early 18th century, with later alterations. It features a timber frame with brick and plaster infill and has a tile roof with a gambrel design over a sandstone rubble end stack and a detached brick chimney. The building has a rectangular plan with two and a half bays, oriented roughly east to west, and stands two storeys tall.

The north elevation showcases three mid-20th century casement windows with two lights on the top floor, and a similar casement window on the ground floor, with an entrance to the left. The timber frame consists of four panels from the sill to the wall plate, supported by four sets of angle struts connecting the posts to the wall plate. Inside, there is a segmental head in the western half-bay on the first floor, along with two oak ledged doors featuring strap hinges, which may date from the 18th century. The trusses include three pairs of angle struts made from reused timber, connecting the ties to the principals. The ground floor ceilings are adorned with beams that have lamb's tongue run-out chamfer stops. A corridor running east to west on the north side is separated from the main southern room by heavy square framing, which is two panels high from the floor to the ceiling.
