Description

STAUNTON-ON-WYE CP - SO 34 NE 4/107 The Green

GV II House. Probably late C17 or early C18 with later alterations. Timber-frame with brick and plaster infill. Tile roof with gambrel to sandstone rubble end stack and detached brick shaft. Rectangular 2 1/2 bay plan aligned roughly east/west. Two storeys. North elevation has three mid-C20 casements of two lights to top floor. Similar casement to ground floor with entry to left-hand Side. Frame is four panels high from cill to wall-plate with four sets of angle struts from posts to wall-plate. Interior has segmental head, into western half-bay, on first floor. Two oak ledged doors with strap hinges, possibly C18. Trusses have three pairs of angle struts of re-used timber, from ties to principals. Ground floor ceilings have beams with lamb's tongue run-out chamfer stops. Corridor running east/west on north side is separated from southern principal room by heavy square framing, two panels high from floor to ceiling. (RCHM, Vol III, p 186).
