Description
The Ridge is a cottage that likely dates from the 17th century or early 18th century, with some later alterations. It features a timber frame with painted brick infill and a thatched roof, along with an external sandstone rubble end stack that has a detached brick shaft. The building has a rectangular two-bay plan oriented east to west and consists of one storey and an attic.
On the south elevation, there are two windows in eyebrow dormers, which are 2-light late 20th-century casements. The ground floor also has two similar windows, and to the right of the centre, there is a 19th-century ledged door. The thatch extends around the end stack to the right gable, and there is a flat-roofed late 20th-century extension on the left gable. The timber frame consists of two square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate.
Inside, the cottage has heavy ceiling beams and a cast iron fireplace range from the mid-19th century located at the east gable.
