Description

STAUNTON-ON-WYE CP - SO 34 NE 4/115 The Ridge

GV II Cottage. Probably C17 or early C18 with later alterations. Timber-frame with painted brick infill. Thatched roof and external sandstone rubble end stack with detached brick shaft. Rectangular two-bay plan aligned east/west. One storey and attic. South elevation has two windows, 2-light late C20 casements in eyebrow dormers. Two similar windows to ground floor. C19 ledged door to right of centre. Thatch extends around end stack to right gable. Flat-roofed late C20 extension to-left-gable. Frame is two square panels high from cill to wall-plate. Interior noted as having heavy ceiling beams and cast iron mid-C19 fireplace range to east gable. (RCHM, Vol III, p 187).
