Description
Lower House is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th century and later. It features a timber-frame structure with brick and plaster infill, as well as sandstone rubble and brick, some of which is roughcast. The roofs are tiled, and there are sandstone rubble and brick stacks. The building has a T-plan layout, with a cross-wing at the west end and a southern projection at the east end. It is one and two storeys high, with an attic.
The south elevation displays a pattern of 2:1:1 windows, with a gable on each side. The central window is a 4-light leaded casement set in a gabled dormer, which is likely from the early 20th century. The entrance is located to the right of the left-hand gable. The frame of the cross-wing consists of four panels high from the cill to the wall-plate. The interior was inaccessible during the re-survey conducted in November 1986.
