Description
This house, located at 2 Bridge Street, dates back to the early 16th century and has undergone some alterations in the 20th century. It features close-studded timber-framing with wattle-and-daub infill set on a sandstone rubble plinth, topped with a Welsh slate roof and a brick chimney stack. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with a rear wing extending to the northwest.
The house has three bays that run north to south, with the entrance located on the west side and a large central axial stack. It is two storeys high, with the upper storey supported on a jetty. The moulded bressummer is held up by curved brackets that have attached shafts to the wall-plates. On the first floor, there are three 3-light casement windows from the 20th century, featuring leading. The ground floor has two similar 3-light 20th-century windows to the right of the doorway, which includes an overlight and a four-panelled door. The rear wing is noted for its internal side-purlin roof with wind bracing, as well as exposed timber framing and transverse partitioning made of heaving scantling.
