Description
Duppa's Almshouses are a pair of almshouses, originally built as six tenements but now comprising four. They were established in 1661 by Jeffrey Duppa and later enhanced by Bryan Duppa, the Bishop of Winchester. The building features square panelled timber-framing with painted brick infill, set on a sandstone rubble plinth, and is topped with a Welsh slate roof.
The structure has six bays arranged in a north/south direction, with lateral stacks at the rear and four entrances on the east front. It stands two storeys high, with the upper storey jettied at both the north and south ends, supported by curved brackets, and there are traces of shafts on the main posts.
On the east front, there are four 2-light casement windows located below the eaves, along with an additional four 4-pane casement windows set within the timber-framed panelling on the first floor. The ground floor features one 2-light casement window, with another window to the right and one to the left.
