Description

The New Inn is a public house that originated as a house in the 17th century, with later alterations made in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It features square panelled timber-framing with a sandstone rubble plinth, and has sections of wattle-and-daub and painted brick infill, topped with tiled roofs. The main building is arranged in an H-plan and faces south towards the market place, with additional structures at the rear and to the west.

The inn has two storeys, attics, and a cellar, with a central entrance and gable-end stacks at the rear. The upper storeys of the cross-wings are supported by jetties to the south, featuring shaped brackets and pendants. The left cross-wing has cusped struts in the gable, a small 4-pane casement window in the attic, and a 2-light casement window on the first floor. To the right of the ledged door, there is a similar leaded window on the ground floor. The central range contains two 2-light casement windows, with leaded windows flanking the central ledged door on the ground floor. The right cross-wing also has cusped struts in the gable, a 4-pane casement window, and two 2-light casement windows on the first and ground floors, along with a 4-light mullioned window in the cellar next to the ledged cellar door.

Inside, the inn retains chamfered ceiling beams with ogee stops and a large open fireplace with a bread oven in the public bar, which has a chamfered surround.
