Description

Old Court is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with alterations made in the late 17th century and further changes in the 20th century. It is timber-framed and sits on a sandstone rubble plinth, featuring a mix of wattle-and-daub and painted brick infill, topped with Welsh slate roofs. The building has a half H-shaped plan with wings extending to the north-east and includes lateral stacks and a central entrance to the main block. It stands two storeys high.

The north-east front of the central block has been significantly altered during the 17th century when the roof was raised. It features one two-light 20th-century window and one blocked opening to the left, alongside two 20th-century cross-casement windows with leaded panes to the right. Flanking the doorway, which has a coved canopy and a ledged door, are four-light 20th-century mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights. The gable end of the cross-wing to the left has an under-built jettied upper storey, with two-light casement windows on the upper floor and two 20th-century cross-casement windows with leaded lights on the ground floor. The cross-wing to the right appears to have been extended during the 17th century and features a three-light casement window. The building displays square panelled timber-framing with V-struts in the gables.

Inside, the farmhouse retains a mid-17th-century staircase with splat balusters, as noted by the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments in 1932.
